#1: What Happens If You Hit Rock/Water When You Dig?
Without completing a soils test before the digging starts, pool contractors don’t exactly know what they will reach once they start digging. In 99/100 cases, customers don’t get a soils test so hitting rock or water could be an option. For the most part, hitting these doesn’t really matter unless the soil condition in your backyard compromises the structural integrity of the pool. Or, in some cases, it could matter if removing the rock or water will end up costing you more money than previously discussed.
#2: How Much Dirt Will There Be?
If you are not an excavation contractor, it can be difficult to gauge how much dirt is going to be coming out of the ground. In most cases, our team tells the client to imagine how dirt is coming out, then to multiply that by 10 because more dirt will come out than one thinks. On average, a pool excavation will generate a pile of dirt about the size of five garden sheds, and then it is hauled out.
#3: Do I Save Money Digging My Own Hole?
Many people think that if they are able to dig out the pool hole themselves, they are able to save some money, but this is not the case. Since the contracting team has to bring their machines to the site anyways to lift and set the pool, it makes the most sense for them to go ahead and do the pool excavation while they are there. For a contracting team, it actually only takes a couple of hours to dig the hole out.
#4: What Will Happen to My Yard?
Removing the dirt, gravel, concrete, and water is done by large trucks since it’s not possible by helicopter – but wouldn’t that be convenient! You can expect that by the time the trucks are done carrying everything out that your yard may encounter some damage. It wouldn’t be anything significant but most or all of the grass will be gone and any surrounding flowers will likely be gone as well.
